About Listening Eyes

Hello, welcome to my website.  You are here perhaps because you were wondering what Listening Eyes is all about.  Well, hang-on as you may be about ready to embark on a journey that will transform the way you think!

If you have an interest or maybe just a mild curiosity about American Sign Language, you have come to the right place.  The purpose of “Listening Eyes” is to provide the opportunity for those interested in learning to sign but without the high fees, purchasing of costly materials and commitment of long class schedules.  Most people don’t feel they have the time or money to invest in something they may be unsure about; that’s why my focus is on providing affordable flexible introductory 8 week classes. 

I also have a passion for educating those unaware of Deaf Culture as I was for so many years.  I can pave the way to start this journey and I would like to encourage you to take that first step.  For some, it may be one out of your comfort zone; but I can tell you this, it will be fun, interesting and for sure change the way you think and open up a whole new way of expressing yourself. 

Most of us are culturally conditioned to restrain our body movements for social acceptance.  You may have noticed that signing employs the use of eyes, face, hands and body in ways which you may not be accustomed to.  Non-verbal communication is an intense activity requiring attention both expressively and receptively.  It is a different way of communicating that requires “listening with your eyes” which most of us are not use to doing. 

So, should you decide to take that first step, I look forward to meeting you and introducing you to the wonderful and fascinating world of the Deaf and hopefully like me, and countless of others, you will come away with a deeper understanding and appreciation for this beautiful and expressive language.
